Closing Prices - Naming

NON-BUCKETS

These are "clean" products, only interests and trades with these specific details are registered with an OHLC for a certain date, if there is a trade, settlement or enough interests on that day.

NAMING:

[ProductGroup][Vintage][Optional: Quarter/Month][Technology]([Conditional: Origin])[Currency]

  1. ProductGroup: Indicates the type of renewable energy certificate - 'EECS', 'I-REC', 'REGO', or 'RECS'. Mandatory.
  2. Vintage: The production year of the certificate. Mandatory.

  3. Optional: Quarter/Month: Specifies the production quarter (Q1-Q4) or month (01-12) if specified. Optional.

  4. Technology: Describes the energy source technology. Can be "Any," "Any renewable," "Hydro," "Solar," "Wind," "Geo," or "Bio." Mandatory.

  5. Conditional: Origin: If a specific origin other than "Any" is specified, it's included. If the origin is "Any," this segment is omitted.

  6. Currency: The trading currency. Mandatory.

Examples:

  • EECS 2024 Any EUR (Tech=Any and is mandatory so it is always included, Origin=Any and so it is not included, see 5)
  • REGO 2023 Q1 Solar United Kingdom GBP (Specific Quarter)
  • I-REC 2024 Wind Brazil USD
  • RECS 2023 12 Bio Canada USD (Specific month)

BUCKETS

Same as above but the word All is added to the end of the product.

There are multiple types of buckets but the gist of it is aggregating more detailed trades and interests into larger "buckets" so there are more price point on the curves, whilst keeping the "pure" products so it is possible to have the best of two worlds. There are

  • Origin-buckets (for EECS only, in I-REC world it does not make sense)
  • Technology-buckets
  • Year-buckets
  • Quarter-buckets

Examples:

  • EECS 2024 Hydro EUR All (Year bucket)
  • REGO 2023 Q1 Solar United Kingdom GBP All (Quarter bucket)
  • I-REC 2024 Any renewable Brazil USD All

CURRENCY BUCKETS

Same as above but the phrase

Any->EUR

is added as the second last phrase. The All from buckets above are the last phrase.

The intention is the same as for the buckets, but it adds another level of buckets where all prices are converted into EURO, hence the phrase Any->EUR.

The conversion is done using the current exchange rates at that day.

It is especially fitting for I-RECs where both EUR, USD and sometimes local currency is used and the price points are scattered as Origins are much more important here, ie IRECS Brazil have a completely different price picture then I-RECs from Malaysia.

Still the "pure" products are kept as well, ie there are individual OHLC for any USD trades, EUR trades etc for each origin, tech and vintage.

Examples:

  • EECS 2024 Hydro Any->EUR All (Currency bucket and vintage bucket)
  • REGO 2023 Q1 Solar United Kingdom Any-EUR All (Currency bucket, and Quarter bucket)
  • I-REC 2024 Wind Brazil Any->EUR All
